1. Re: Using remote EJB by annotation
csorbag Apr 17, 2009 2:54 AM (in response to abednarski)I'm not sure what you mean by client. As I understand you have 2 EJBs on different servers, and one calls the other one, right?
I think one option is to use external context as described in
http://www.jboss.org/file-access/default/members/jbossas/freezone/docs/Server_Configuration_Guide/4/html/Additional_Naming_MBeans-org.jboss.naming.ExternalContext_MBean.html. I have not tried that with annotations but it should work. -

The bean does seem to exist in JBoss AS 5: http://www.docjar.com/docs/api/org/jboss/naming/ExternalContextMBean.html .
I searched the following guides:
https://community.jboss.org/wiki/JBossAS5InstallationandGettingStartedGuide
https://community.jboss.org/wiki/JBossAS5AdministrationandConfigurationGuide
https://community.jboss.org/wiki/JBossAS5ClusteringGuide
But there's simply nothing about this MBean there. Has this MBean been deprecated? Is there a new way to do this in JBoss AS 5.x?

4. Re: Using remote EJB by annotation
jaikiran Feb 7, 2010 9:38 AM (in response to henk53)I don't have much idea about that MBean. Also, this doesn't look like a EJB3 question. I'll move this to our AS user forum, where someone who knows about this might help.

Guys, what's the idea of stating that you move away from MBeans, while everything keeps using MBeans and there is no information available on how to do the same with POJOs in JBoss AS 5?
If I buy support for JBoss, will 'they' then be able to answer this question? Is this even something anyone knows? Or has this particular MBean been development by someone who long ago left JBoss and is forgotten to be assigned to a new developer/maintainer?

8. Re: Using remote EJB by annotation
henk53 Aug 15, 2010 6:38 AM (in response to abednarski)Just wondering, for JBoss AS 6, will we need to keep looking up the documentation for this MBean in the JBoss AS 4 documentation? Wouldn't that be a bit awkward, especially for new users?

henk53 Aug 28, 2010 8:21 AM (in response to henk53)Guys,
What's the deal with this question?
Why does nobody answer this? Doesn't anyone care about this? Should I crosspost this to some other forum? Should I rephrase the question?

Like I said in one of my previous reply, I haven't looked at that MBean to know anything about it. But given that you have been asking this for some time now, here's what I think:

Yes. They would. After all that's what paid support means - you are paying to get your questions answered in a timely manner without you having to dig into code/documentation/forums for the answers yourself.

Anyway, if I were you and if I wanted a functionality which this MBean supposedly provides, I would first try it out against AS5 and if I run into any issues, then would create some specific forum threads to discuss those issues. It's no secret that the AS5 documentation doesn't cover all of the MBeans/POJOs out there. Furthermore, if you get things working with that MBean, you could even create a wiki with the details.
P.S: I'm not blaming you for asking the question about documentation. I'm just pointing out that you can easily give it a try and then come up with any specific issues which someone here might be able to help with. Infact, if I find some time soon, I'll see if I can look into the details of that MBean (but I can't promise).

Additionally, documentation of the bean is now in the 5.1 documentation:

14. Re: Using remote EJB by annotation
jaikiran Jan 17, 2012 10:25 AM (in response to henk53)If you mean the ExternalContextMBean, then no it's not in AS7.
However, if you want to be able to inject a bean which is also deployed on some other server and have the invocations forwarded to the other server, it should be possible in AS7. I'm going to write up some documentation for that and it's related to this thread https://community.jboss.org/thread/177237?tstart=30
