1. Re: JBPM 4 or 3?
camunda Nov 2, 2010 6:00 AM (in response to odelyaholiday)Hi Odelya.
Yeah, this is still relevant. jBPM 4 was a bit "abandoned" as community project and will never make it in the JBoss support. And there is not much going on at the moment. So either use jBPM 3, wait for jBPM 5 or go with another Engine I would suggest at the moment...
Cheers
Bernd

2. Re: JBPM 4 or 3?
salaboy21 Nov 2, 2010 8:14 AM (in response to odelyaholiday)Yes, I recommend you to take a look at Drools Flow (drools.org), then you can easily migrate to jBPM 5 and take advantage of the BPM engine, Rules Engine and CEP features.

3. Re: JBPM 4 or 3?
camunda Nov 2, 2010 9:18 AM (in response to salaboy21)Actually I wouldn't start with DroolsFlow either, since it is in the same status as jBPM 4 somehow, community project without support or any garantees as well.

4. Re: JBPM 4 or 3?
salaboy21 Nov 2, 2010 12:07 PM (in response to camunda)hmm Yes.. Drools flow is a community project right now, but it has a great community around. You can join the mailing list to see all the activity. And as far as I understand there will be a rebranded to jBPM5 and productized. Take a look at the following links:
http://blog.athico.com/2010/10/here-we-go-first-jbpm5-snapshots.html
http://blog.athico.com/2010/10/jbpm5-and-bpmn-20.html
http://enterprisebpm.blogspot.com/2010/04/announcing-jbpm-5.html
And remember Drools Flow is not just BPM, you can also take advantage of all the features inside the Drools Platform (Business Rule Engine, and Complex Event Processing features).
So I strongly recommend you to check out Drools as a platform and the jBPM 5 snapshots, you will notice a lot of similarities between them
Greetings!

6. Re: JBPM 4 or 3?
krisverlaenen Nov 3, 2010 10:03 PM (in response to odelyaholiday)If you need immediate support, you should still use jBPM3. If not, I suggest you start at jBPM5.

eschabell Nov 4, 2010 4:22 AM (in response to odelyaholiday)Also to add to Kris's reply, jBPM3 will be supported until 2015, no hurry to move on if you ask me! ;-)

8. Re: JBPM 4 or 3?
hifly81 Nov 4, 2010 10:13 AM (in response to eschabell)another reason... if you want to use a bpm with jboss esb you must use jbpm 3.x. don't lose you time with jbpm 4.x

odelyaholiday Nov 14, 2010 8:48 AM (in response to hifly81)Hi!
Thank you all for your ideas.
Would you suggest to me to start with jBPM5?
I have no knowledge in jBPM and was wondering - is it documented well?

krisverlaenen Nov 22, 2010 8:15 PM (in response to hifly81)... and this documentation has just been extended significantly
The documentation contains a hello world example using BPMN2:
If you use the installer, you can also see a simple human task process in action in the various tools.
