Brilliant! Thanks so much. Just to clarify, that means it can be a List or an array (and possibly something else too)? In that case, what should I pass to createMethodExpression? If I do...
application.getExpressionFactory().createMethodExpression( context.getELContext(), facesSuggest, List.class, new Class[]{ Object.class } );
...then presumably I won't get the Array case. So should I just do Object.class?Regards,
Richard.

Object.class is fine; according to JavaDocs returnType is only important when literal (i.e. without #{...}) expression is used.
