The problem with group deletion is that the action of the a4j:commandLink is pointing to a #{bean.delete} instead of #{bean.deleteGroup}, after changing this the code works fine for groups too.
Using ':form:data' as reRender value solves the problem, but I assume this is just a workaround, right? My concern is if this will be solved in the next version of ajax4jsf, please let me know.

Actually, vice versa. If you care about the performance, using ":form:data" is a direct way, but just "data" is workaround.

I suggest, both ways (shortest with ":form:data" and longest with "data") should work in this example. So the issue is still opened for further investigation. -
