FSW Clustered Service Registry dependence on wars in standalone/deployments/?

I was wondering if using the FSW clustered service registry is dependent on any of the out of the box wars that are in the /standalone/deployments/ directory? There are a number of wars (such as overlord*, s-ramp* and dtgov*) in there. I cannot seem to get a switchyard application to work with the 'clustered' flag enabled on the service that I am trying to reach (the service does have the clustered flag set on its side). I always end up with an NPE and realized that it might have something to do with removing (to decrease EAP startup time) all of those wars in deployments. From the documentation (docs.jboss.org/author/display/SWITCHYARD/Clustering) it does not look like s-ramp/dtgov/overlord are needed but I may be interpreting that incorrectly.
