      FAQ - RHQ - Project Documentation Editor

           JON (aka "JBoss Operations Network" or "JBoss ON") is a commercial product offered to Red Hat customers and is thus fully quality-tested and certified. JON 2.0 and later is based on RHQ;

      1. Is RHQ and JbossON the same product and difference is only in commercial supportf from RedHat ?
      2. Is difference between RHQ and JbossON similar to difference between Jboss 7.1.1.Final and EAP 6.1.0 Alpha ?
      3. Or JON ads some new features to RHQ ?

      Thx, BR

          RHQ is developed as an open source project, it's tested by the developers before a release. The JON product is based on RHQ and goes through additional QA from a dedicated team before a release is made.

          After its GA release, JON also receives patches to solve specific issues (bugs and security fixes) and is the only version for which you can get support from.

          There is no additional features in JON compared to RHQ.

          I hope this answers your questions.

            Hi,

            1. They're not the same "product", even if they share the same source. RHQ is the upstream project of the JON product. RHQ is packaged with all its dependencies built by the community and downloaded from Maven public repositories. JON and all its dependencies are built inside Red Hat. Some (very few) features in the upstream project are not available in JON.

            2. I can't give you a version to version equivalence but, yes, JON is to RHQ what EAP 6 is to AS 7

            3. JON does not have features which you can't find in the upstream project (it's not an "open core" open source model)

            Regards
