it should work with the first config you provieded, with no login provided. If it doesn't it is a bug.

can you test if it still happens for you if you use attached files and put them into jboss_home\modules\org\jboss\as\mail\main (replace existing ones)

for time being no.
But it is a plan to support this later on, when general infrastructure for credential management (vault) is ready all subsystems will migrate that for un/pw store.
that will bring users central store for credential management.
