Why is the partition name part of the ejb-clustering annotation?
Suppose there are three clusters: one for integration, one for test, one for production and each has a distinct partition name. It would not be possible to 'move' the application from integration to test without changing the code.

It may have some of the info you are looking for. Also supposedly, in an upcoming EJB3 release the value of the partition will default to jboss.partition.name so that you can have the same ejb clustered in multiple partitions.
