CKAN for Open Data, Clément Mouchet, Sopra

Abstract submitted for this Lightning Session (2)

Recent budgetary and regulatory pressure have highlighted Open Data as a potentially efficient way to maximise the value data, encourage re-use and drive innovation.

CKAN (Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network)  is a powerful data management system that makes data accessible – by providing tools to streamline publishing, sharing, finding and using data. It has quickly become the world’s leading open-source data portal platform, adopted by most open governments and public bodies providing an Open Data portal, including the UK Cabinet Office with data.gov.uk.

This talk will provide an overview of CKAN’s features: how it has been designed to be extended and how it can be customised to integrate with your existing infrastructure and services to maximise the value of your data, either by using it as an Open Data portal, or internally as an information hub.

Thanks to everyone who attended the last JBUG event on Weds 28th August, and speakers Pete Muir, principal software engineer for Red Hat and Derek Howlett, senior technical architect for Red Hat.

This time we only have slides to share from Derek's Introductory session as Pete Muir's 'The JBoss Way' was primarily a technical demo.

Richard Hands from Sopra Group also did a demo on the OptaPlanner tool as a Lightning Session - so no slides from him either

We'll hopefully be running another session later this year in November, so watch this space!

We are having to move the planned date for the next JBUG Scotland Event due to speaker diary conflicts.  Please note the next event will not take place on 5th September but we will confirm a new date in the next week.  Thanks
