    Introduction

    Main Talk

Hibernate Search and OGM: taking advantage of NoSQL leaving out the complexity

    Speaker

    Sanne Grinovero

    Abstract

Initially Hibernate focused on mapping domain objects to relational databases, and while this had a tremendous good feedback, often a SQL database can't offer all data services a modern application needs. Many applications require full-text search capabilities, such as provided by Apache Lucene, and often need extreme scaling capabilities and flexible clustering options to run on cloud environments. Cloud environments  also tend to be unfriendly to relational database deployments.

In this talk we will start exploring the basics of full-text search technology and how your application can benefit from it, then show how easy it is to enable Lucene integration in your existing JPA applications. We will talk about strategies to scale such an application dynamically using Infinispan as a distributed cache and index storage. We will point out how this fits nicely with cloud deployments and finally how you can remove the relational database altogether by using Hibernate OGM while still using the well known JPA programming paradigm.

Sanne Grinovero is a member of the Hibernate, Infinispan and JGroups teams, specializing on scalable search engines (focusing on Apache Lucene) and making sure that Hibernate based JEE applications scale nicely on cloud environments while providing a consistent developer experience.

The Talk will be followed by Refreshments and General Discussion

    Break up about 8:30.
