    Transcript

[10:04pm] balunasj: I did not see an agenda today, but really I have only a few things to cover atm.
[10:04pm] balunasj: just saw the dev post
    [10:04pm] balunasj: nevermind
[10:04pm] serogers: I started a bit of an agenda here:http://community.jboss.org/wiki/RichFacesDocMeeting17February2010
    [10:04pm] serogers: OK
    [10:04pm] serogers:
[10:04pm] serogers: Sorry, I didn't reply to your email about going through the transcripts
[10:05pm] serogers: I did that and summarized in the dev post
[10:05pm] balunasj: since it is first thing in the morning I tend to check corporate mail first.
[10:05pm] balunasj: then switch to community mail
    [10:05pm] balunasj: and forums
[10:05pm] ilya_shaikovsky| joined the chat room.
[10:05pm] balunasj: that is why I did not see it.
    [10:05pm] ilya_shaikovsky| is now known as ilya_shaikovsky.
    [10:05pm] serogers: No problem
[10:05pm] nbelaevski joined the chat room.
[10:05pm] balunasj: first lets get 3.3.3.CR1 out of the way
    [10:05pm] serogers: OK
[10:06pm] serogers: The doc bundle has been uploaded
[10:06pm] balunasj: nice ! just checked the jira
[10:06pm] balunasj: all ready uploaded - you must know the right strings to pull
[10:06pm] serogers: Yep, I've got it figured out now
[10:07pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky and I will give it a quick look through and then announce the release.
    [10:07pm] serogers: OK
    [10:07pm] balunasj: after the meeting
    [10:07pm] ilya_shaikovsky: https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/RFPL-375 - done
    [10:07pm] ilya_shaikovsky: balunasj, ^
[10:07pm] balunasj: ppitonak: [OT] can you resolve RFPL-378
[10:08pm] balunasj: ppitonak: since you verified the uploads
[10:08pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: once you or nbelaevski take a look at my blog draft I'll close RFPL-376
    [10:08pm] nbelaevski: hello all
[10:08pm] ilya_shaikovsky: balunasj, sure - share it then
    [10:09pm] nbelaevski: ok
    [10:09pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: I sent in email
[10:09pm] balunasj: after that we'll be ready to go.
    [10:09pm] ppitonak: balunasj: resolved
    [10:09pm] balunasj: ppitonak: thnaks
[10:10pm] balunasj: ok back to docs.
[10:11pm] balunasj: serogers: what would you like to cover first?
[10:11pm] serogers: Did you want to talk about anything I listed in the dev post athttp://community.jboss.org/thread/147617 ?
[10:12pm] balunasj: yes that is a good place to start
    [10:13pm] balunasj: reading...
[10:13pm] balunasj: We'll review the release procedure as part of the assembly tasks
    [10:13pm] • balunasj I'll add a task for that
    [10:14pm] serogers: OK
    [10:14pm] balunasj: serogers: for hudson
[10:15pm] balunasj: serogers: do you know how to get hudson to show links to docs on build front page?
[10:15pm] balunasj: serogers: the tools build does this and it is very nice.
[10:15pm] • balunasj looking up link
    [10:15pm] serogers: balunasj: No, I don't know
[10:17pm] balunasj: but they are uploading to the download area
[10:17pm] balunasj: so out of scope for us right now I think
    [10:17pm] serogers: OK
[10:18pm] balunasj: serogers: we are missing tasks and estimates for the doc tasks for ALPHA2 for the release plan.
[10:19pm] balunasj: serogers: iirc we discussed some of that at the meeting and had some open items.
[10:19pm] balunasj: These included A2 component docs
    [10:20pm] balunasj: as major requirement.
[10:20pm] serogers: OK, I can do some estimates
[10:20pm] balunasj: then CDK, skinning, etc... as secondary components.
[10:20pm] serogers: A good portion of the components have been documented already, I'll need to get the reviewed
[10:20pm] balunasj: most of the A2 components are not complex, but items like tables will required some time.
[10:21pm] balunasj: serogers: sure that was another topic as well
    [10:21pm] serogers:
    [10:21pm] ilya_shaikovsky: balunasj, serogers, https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/RF-8388 created
[10:22pm] serogers: I know you are all busy recently, but do you think you might be able to review some of the docs in the next few weeks?
    [10:22pm] ilya_shaikovsky: serogers, sure
[10:22pm] balunasj: serogers: you should create jira's for each component, and assign to me.  They I'll either review or have others review as well.
    [10:23pm] serogers: OK, great
[10:23pm] balunasj: unfortunately jira does not support sub-tasks having sub-tasks
[10:23pm] balunasj: so you can no just put a subtasks on the component jira.
[10:23pm] serogers: No problem, I'll sort something out
[10:23pm] balunasj: serogers: please link the jira you create to the component though
    [10:24pm] serogers: OK
[10:24pm] balunasj: to help with this - make sure to use doc component, and perhaps "review" for a label - thoughts?
[10:25pm] serogers: OK, that sounds fine
[10:25pm] • balunasj also not 100% RFPL or RF on these?
    [10:25pm] serogers: I think RF
[10:25pm] serogers: With an RFPL to cover all of them
    [10:25pm] serogers: Maybe...?
[10:26pm] balunasj: sure that sounds good.
    [10:26pm] serogers: OK
[10:26pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: the jira you linked to above - did you have more to discuss with that?
[10:28pm] ilya_shaikovsky: balunasj, just notified Sean and you that we added one more behavior.. It will not be changed much since 3.3.3 (as was discussed yesterday) so just to get you know about the fact
    [10:28pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: ic ok
    [10:29pm] serogers: OK thanks ilya_shaikovsky
[10:29pm] serogers: OK, also from the agenda, we discussed last week that I might possibly review the English and grammar in the API and TLD docs. What are the thoughts on this?
[10:29pm] balunasj: alot of that will come down to time requirements on your part
[10:30pm] balunasj: your priority is the main books
    [10:30pm] serogers: That's true
[10:30pm] ilya_shaikovsky: that sounds good but just we should be carefull in order not to break classes
[10:30pm] balunasj: but if you needed a break, or had some extra cycles in the schedule it would be good to review
[10:30pm] serogers: Well, should I be editing it myself, or raising a Jira for someone else?
[10:31pm] serogers: If I found an error
[10:31pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: agreed, he would just be updating the javadoc parts.
[10:31pm] balunasj: serogers: I would guess much of what your will find is minor grammar issues between languages.
[10:32pm] balunasj: serogers: it would likely be quicker for you to just update, or add a word here, or there
[10:32pm] ilya_shaikovsky: balunasj, it could be some minor problems like pasting from word for example or erroneous comment closure erasing which could break the build
[10:32pm] ilya_shaikovsky: but I agree that it would be extra work if Sean will create dev tasks and not sjut correct
[10:32pm] balunasj: serogers: I know you have some experience with coding correct?
[10:32pm] serogers: OK, I probably won't attempt anything too big
[10:32pm] ilya_shaikovsky: serogers, B.t.w. could you point us to some guidelines for java doc maybe ?
[10:32pm] serogers: And only if it really needs doing, really minor errors are probably fine
[10:32pm] balunasj: serogers: you have written some iphone apps, and others - any java?
[10:33pm] serogers: balunasj: not since University, but I can probably find my way around
    [10:33pm] balunasj: serogers: ok
[10:33pm] serogers: ilya_shaikovsky: I'm not sure of any guidelines
[10:33pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: I agree  - having some javadoc guidlines would be good.
[10:33pm] ilya_shaikovsky: serogers, np just interesting maybe you know about some
[10:34pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: I know that Gavin just wrote some up for weld that I liked
[10:34pm] ilya_shaikovsky: In order we be more accurate from the beggining in future
[10:34pm] serogers: I'll have a look and see if I can find any
[10:34pm] ilya_shaikovsky: balunasj, that sounds good need to check that
[10:34pm] serogers: balunasj: that sounds good
    [10:34pm] • balunasj looking
[10:37pm] balunasj: we can move on, I'll keep looking...
[10:38pm] balunasj: Here is part of it for public API - http://seamframework.org/Weld/WeldJavaDocGuidelines
[10:38pm] serogers: OK. The only other thing I wanted to discuss was whether we had anything that detailed all the technologies in use in RichFaces.
[10:38pm] serogers: There's a section in the Dev Guide in the RichFaces Overview chapter
[10:39pm] serogers: That introduces the different technologies
[10:39pm] balunasj: serogers: what did you have in mind - overview of Ajax, JSF, etc...
    [10:39pm] balunasj: ?
[10:39pm] serogers: Like there would be JSF2 and Ajax
[10:39pm] serogers: Any others that would be relevant?
    [10:39pm] nbelaevski: HTML/CSS/etc. are relevant?
    [10:39pm] serogers: Maybe
[10:40pm] nbelaevski: I mean to describe in this document
[10:40pm] serogers: I guess also I was thinking other JBoss technologies like Seam
[10:40pm] serogers: That work with RichFaces
[10:40pm] serogers: But maybe that's making things too difficult
[10:41pm] serogers: I might just stick with the fundamental stuff
[10:42pm] balunasj: serogers: so more like a glossary ?
[10:42pm] balunasj: or explainations of how all of these things fit together with a diagram of some type
[10:43pm] serogers: I was thinking more how it fits together
[10:43pm] serogers: I can probably write something up and see if everyone thinks it is worth including or not
[10:44pm] balunasj: serogers: that sounds like a good idea.
    [10:44pm] serogers: OK, cool
[10:44pm] serogers: Well that's it unless anyone has anything else?
[10:45pm] balunasj: serogers: so we'll need a break down of required tasks and estimates for A2 requirments for you. so we can plug into plan
    [10:45pm] serogers: OK
[10:45pm] balunasj: We'll only have one more release of 3.3.3 - the final release
    [10:45pm] balunasj:
    [10:45pm] serogers:
[10:46pm] balunasj: and then we are all going to focus on 4.0 as much as possible
[10:46pm] balunasj: anyone else have anything for now?
[10:47pm] ilya_shaikovsky: serogers, so point us to review jiras after will create them maybe with some letter in order all who interested will know that could check
    [10:47pm] balunasj: agreed
    [10:48pm] serogers: Yes
[10:49pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: nbelaevski : have you guys had a chance to take a look at my blog announcement?
[10:49pm] ilya_shaikovsky: already send you mail
[10:49pm] ilya_shaikovsky: looks good for me
[10:49pm] balunasj: once that is done we can get the release out there
    [10:49pm] balunasj: ok
    [10:49pm] balunasj: good
[10:49pm] balunasj: serogers: thanks for staying up so late for the meeting, and let me know if anything new comes up
[10:50pm] serogers: Will do. Thanks everyone
    [10:50pm] nbelaevski: balunasj: I've looke d too - all's fine
[10:50pm] ilya_shaikovsky: serogers, thanks also and see you
    [10:50pm] serogers: Bye
    [10:50pm] balunasj: serogers: good night
[10:50pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: nbelaevski : then lets do a quick look through the doc bundle and announce the release!
    [10:51pm] balunasj: serogers: ok sec
[10:51pm] balunasj: I just noticed in tlddoc
[10:52pm] balunasj: that version is set to 3.3.3 - did other versions have the qualifier on it?
[10:52pm] serogers: I don't think so. I forgot about that. Does anyone know how to change it?
[10:52pm] balunasj: I just checked 3.3.2.GA and it just had 3.3.3
    [10:52pm] balunasj: 33.2
    [10:52pm] balunasj: I mean
[10:52pm] balunasj: so it should be ok
[10:53pm] serogers: I'll try to figure out how to get it changed for the GA
[10:53pm] balunasj: I'm not 100% sure it needs to be - but we can discuss.
    [10:55pm] serogers: OK
[10:55pm] balunasj: serogers: I also noticed in the dev guide that the archetype examples show 3.3.3-SNAPSHOT
[10:55pm] balunasj: not critical for CR1, but want to take a look for GA.
    [10:56pm] serogers: OK
[10:56pm] balunasj: serogers: please create a jira to review.
    [10:56pm] serogers: OK
    [10:56pm] balunasj: thanks
[10:57pm] balunasj: and the other API docs show 3.3.3-SNAPSHOT
[10:57pm] balunasj: That is a little more serious
[10:57pm] ilya_shaikovsky: yes also see it
[10:57pm] serogers: Oh, that's what I thought you meant before
[10:57pm] serogers: How can I change that?
[10:58pm] balunasj: it won't hold up the release, but you should probably plan on updating and having that re-uploaded.
[10:58pm] ilya_shaikovsky: and any of references shows version..
[10:58pm] ilya_shaikovsky: but also not critical
[10:58pm] balunasj: serogers: try building from the tag since it has the versions updated.
[10:59pm] balunasj: serogers: I would need to dig to find out exactly - please take a look and let us know
[10:59pm] balunasj: if you can't find it.
[10:59pm] serogers: OK, I'll try and figure it out
[10:59pm] balunasj: serogers: the other comment was in the dev guide.
[10:59pm] balunasj: serogers: I searched for 3.3.3 and found some of the references where to SNAPSHOT
[11:00pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: I don't see anything that should stop the release
[11:00pm] balunasj: ilya_shaikovsky: anything else from you?
[11:00pm] ilya_shaikovsky: balunasj, the same for me
[11:00pm] balunasj: If not then lets get this release out
[11:00pm] balunasj: serogers: thanks again, and please track these issues.
[11:00pm] serogers: OK, I'll put them in Jira now
