Is RichFaces supported out of the box in JBoss Tools

    jabailo

I've been unable to get RichFaces to work at all using Eclipse and JBoss Tools.

My efforts are documented here in the RichFaces group:

      http://community.jboss.org/message/536169#536169

I have tried using several articles that should "get me started" with RichFaces, but I'm still having problems.

I see in Eclipse that I can create a JSF project with RI libs.  Is this all I need?

Does JBoss 4.2.3 have RichFaces bundled in?  Does JBoss Tools?   Do I need to do any additional configuration to use RichFaces?

In Eclipse/JBoss Tools, I see that RichFaces controls are there.   However, I cannot get a dataTable to render any data when I connect it to a bean.   The same bean/methods work when I use Tomahawk/MyFaces.

          1. Create JSF 1.2 with Facelets project and select any template without libs.

          2. Right click on the project in Package Explorer -> Configure... -> Add Custom Capabilities -> JBoss Richfaces 3.3

          That's it.

            I completed #1.

For number #2, the Configure menu item is not in the Package Explorer (Eclipse 3.4.2) using the Web Developer perspective.

However, if I switch to using the Web Projects Explorer, I find the Configure and I can add using

JBoss Toolss JSF -> Add Custom Capabilities --> JBoss RichFaces 3.3

            I will now test using.

After creating a very simple page, and right-clicking and selecting Debug in Eclipse, this message appears:

                jabailo

Not only did RichFaces support not work, but it seems to have caused a deployment error on my existing MyFaces project (MyFaces being the only JSF implementation that I have gotten to work).

I even went and created a brand new JSF project, selecting the 1.1.4 Tomahawk MyFaces, and moved my (formerly working) pages to it, but it won't deploy!

Error messages below -- have I damaged my JBoss installation entirely (?!):

I think I'm untangling some of the mental mess (on my part).

This is what I think so far:

                  1) The only save way to do faces is with JSF 1.2

                  2) JBoss has a built-in JSF 1.2 library -- that includes MyFaces

                  3) Therefore, there is no need in Eclipse to explicitly add the MyFaces 1.1.4 library

                  4) MyFaces has a datatable, and a modal panel which is what I need for this application

                  5) I still want to use RichFaces, but I think it should be as simple as menu click in Eclipse

                  6) Even though I have the JBoss Tools edition of Eclipse -- it still seems like it wasn't quite tested enough and has some Tomcat legacy configs that conflict with JBoss.    Microsoft Alki  (Seattle residents might get the reference...)

                    jabailo

Well, in my own slow way, I finally got RichFaces to deploy -- hooray.

I used this article up to a point:

                    http://www.mastertheboss.com/en/web-interfaces/124-jboss-richfaces-tutorial.html

                    But also the advice here.

I started with a minimal JSF project.

Then I added in the web.xml setting described in the article.

                    Then I used the JBoss Tools/Add Custom Capabilities/RichFaces 3.3

                    At that point

                         richfaces-api

                         richfaces-ui

                         richfaces-impl

Were added to my Web App Libraries folder.

I did not add the MyFaces libraries.  I believe that I read that JBoss bundles the MyFaces functionality in the server (?) and maybe that caused problems in the past.

So here I go with RichFaces!!
