wiberto Sep 20, 2007 5:14 PM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)I do hot deploys of my ear files through eclipse with no problems.

supernovasoftware.com Sep 20, 2007 5:30 PM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)I mean individual files in exploded format.

3. Re: Hot deploy SFSB and SLSB
wiberto Sep 20, 2007 5:34 PM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)Yes. I use the MyEclipse plugins on top of eclipse and I can hot deploy my projects in exploded format.
And the xhtml pages and css will get auto updated in the server after I change them on the IDE. -

supernovasoftware.com Sep 20, 2007 5:47 PM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)See
http://docs.jboss.org/seam/1.2.1.GA/reference/en/html/gettingstarted.html#d0e2438
This states that you can only hot deploy JavaBean and not EJB3 components. It also states that the Seam is working to fix this.
I am inquiring about the status of this fix. -

pmuir Sep 20, 2007 6:17 PM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)Jason is talking about hot deploy of entire classes. The answer to your question is no. I think (need to check with Gavin to be sure) that it requires a rev of the EJB3 spec.

6. Re: Hot deploy SFSB and SLSB
supernovasoftware.com Sep 20, 2007 6:27 PM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)Well, I started using Seam while 1.0 was in Beta.
At that time the message was SFSB are great and lightweight.
Now I have 100s of them in my application.
I cannot hot deploy them or extend the Seam framework with EBJ3 components.
This is starting to bother me as I could do so with POJO Seam components with the war project structure and /dev folder.
I am not complaining because I love Seam, but I need to make a decision if I should do a major refactoring of my app to speed up the development cycle. -
7. Re: Hot deploy SFSB and SLSB
pmuir Sep 20, 2007 7:28 PM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)I've emailed Gavin to check exactly what needs to be done to make this work.
The advantages of EJB3s are scalability, can be accessed in all the ways EJBs can etc. The disadvantages are - they can't be used with the framework, can't be hot deployed, and need local interfaces. All of these things will be fixed at some point, but for now, unless you need specific features of EJB3 (e.g. remote access, clustering) I would suggest to use POJOs.
So, as you say, we still think that EJB3s are great, it's just we have a few limitations with them, and as they are driven by a spec, it takes more times to get the limitations lifted... -
8. Re: Hot deploy SFSB and SLSB
supernovasoftware.com Sep 20, 2007 7:48 PM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)I am not using EJBs remotely or using clustering.
What changes will I need to make other than removing @Stateless and @Stateful from my beans?
Please advise me on what side effects might occur or functionality I might be taking for granted with SFSB or SLSB vs Seam POJOs.
I would love to drop my interfaces and take advantage of the other benefits now.
I noticed on the list of features you posted previous about Seam tools in the future. Automatically maintaining interfaces. +1
Would it possible to do the same for getters and setters on entity beans? I could use Groovy, but would rather not. -

Why I could not use POJOs and Spring (transaction managment and injection of Spring bean through <seam:component/>) in a clustering environment? -

Did you ever determine what is preventing this functionality?
Could there be a JBoss specific workaround for this? -
12. Re: Hot deploy SFSB and SLSB
pmuir Oct 31, 2007 9:20 AM (in response to supernovasoftware.com)It needs changes to JBoss AS/EJB3 which are currently not defined/unscheduled. File a JIRA issue, (if there isn't already one) and start getting some votes for it.
