1. Re: Does JBoss Portal support usernames with special charact
kpalania Jul 25, 2007 5:09 PM (in response to kpalania)The dot in the username is what is causing this issue. This is blocking for us, as our users have dots in their usernames. Besides, it is not possible to have entire email addresses as usernames because of this bug.

2. Re: Does JBoss Portal support usernames with special charact
cuoz Jul 25, 2007 8:32 PM (in response to kpalania)I use the entire email address as the username in the portal application that I am developing. I don't use LDAP (yet), but am using the DB login module. It works fine. I would do a bit more research into the problem. Sorry I can't give you any ideas of specifically what may be wrong, but I can offer a data point that email addresses can be used as usernames.

3. Re: Does JBoss Portal support usernames with special charact
kpalania Jul 25, 2007 9:17 PM (in response to kpalania)Thanks Gary.. Hmm.. That is really weird.. Which version of JBoss are you using? I am using 2.6.1 (the latest version) and have created a custom login module that extends DBIdentityLoginModule. I verified this with a standalone test case - used the OOTB login module and tried to sign in as a user with the full username, and it rendered the edit mode but when I went to the "dashboard" to view the portlets, I see a WSOD (white screen of death)..

kpalania Jul 25, 2007 9:19 PM (in response to kpalania)Also, Gary, with everything else being the same, things work fine for me when I replace the "." in the user name with some other character..

5. Re: Does JBoss Portal support usernames with special charact
kpalania Jul 26, 2007 1:18 AM (in response to kpalania)This is definitely a JBoss bug. Go to this link, http://portal.demo.jboss.com/portal/default, and try adding a user with a "." in the username. And login as that user. Click on dashboard. It will fail.

theute Jul 26, 2007 1:50 AM (in response to kpalania)Thanks for the report, do you mind filing a Jira bug report ? http://jira.jboss.com (user the same username/password than here)

7. Re: Does JBoss Portal support usernames with special charact
cuoz Jul 26, 2007 9:58 AM (in response to kpalania)Ahh, ok. I'm not using the dashboard. My application uses JB 4.0.5, Portal 2.6, EJB3. For me, the authentication & authorization part works fine. Maybe something specific to the dashboard is my guess.

10. Re: Does JBoss Portal support usernames with special charact
kpalania Jul 26, 2007 4:37 PM (in response to kpalania)Sure, will try to look into it! In the meantime, is there a workaround for this that you can think of?
I tried to submit the request as "userA" (as opposed to userA@company.com), and then, add the suffix to authenticate the user in the custom LDAP login module. This doesn't work as the JBoss Portal code seems to always pick up the user Principal as "userA@company.com".
Really need to get past this issue, so any help would be appreciated. -
11. Re: Does JBoss Portal support usernames with special charact
kpalania Jul 26, 2007 7:50 PM (in response to kpalania)I see a PortalPrincipal[temp@company.com] added somewhere though I am logging in as temp (though I am authenticating as "temp@company.com" for LDAP purposes, I've overridden most APIs in the login modules to simply return "temp"...
